Tuberculosis is Preventable and Curable

Tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne infectious disease that is spread through the air when people who have the disease cough or sneeze. Tuberculosis is currently a global health problem, and a leading cause of death in the developing world. Every year approximately 2 million people infected with TB die of the disease.

If treated properly, TB is curable. However, many people mistake the symptoms of TB for a bad cold or cough and do not seek medical attention. This places their family members and communities at risk. By educating children about the symptoms, prevention and treatment of TB, we can have a profound impact on the communities suffering from this disease.

TB Aware in India
TB Aware has begun a pilot program with the Tibetan community living in India. With the help of the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, 5,000 copies of “TB Aware” have been distributed to Tibetan children at schools, monasteries and hospitals. With your help, we can reach our goal of distributing“TB Aware” to every school age child in the Tibetan community living in exile.

Future Projects
Through a partnership with Soft Power Health, our next book will be aimed at educating the children of Uganda about tuberculosis. “TB Aware” will be translated into the appropriate language and accompany drawings that represent the Ugandan culture.
